WAYFINDER

Our Wayfinder team is building scalable, certifiable autonomy systems to power the next generation of commercial aircraft. Our team of experts is driving the maturation of machine learning and other core technologies for autonomous flight; we are creating a reference architecture that includes hardware, software, and a data-driven development process to allow aircraft to perceive and react to their environment. Autonomous flight is transforming the transportation industry, and our team is at the heart of this revolution.

The Opportunity/ Role Description

As Staff Machine Learning Engineer, you'll lead the technical execution of our ML pipelines with a focus on improving the overall end-to-end perception pipeline. You'll have the freedom to be hands-on, drive innovation, and maintain an agile work environment that fosters collaboration and creativity.

This is a high impact position with contribution to the greater Airbus ambitions. 


Role Responsibilities

  • Design and develop cutting-edge ML models, architectures, and pipelines for vision-based flight capabilities in commercial aircraft
  • Drive technical direction, providing guidance to the team and ensuring alignment with business objectives
  • Conduct rigorous evaluations of ML models, assessing effectiveness, efficiency
  • Write high quality, product level code that is easy to maintain and test following standard methodologies
  • Collaborate with multiple teams, including Data/Labeling, Simulation, Verification, and Validation, as well as teams in the global Airbus Organization
  • Keep track of the latest innovation in academia and the open-source community and quickly prototype new projects on Vision and LLM/Foundation model useful to Airbus.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree (or equivalent industry experience) in computer science, or a related discipline
  • 10+ years of experience in developing and leading software and system design for aerospace, robotics or related fields
  • 6+ years of industry experience working as a CV/ML perception software engineer in the field of autonomous vehicles or related fields
  • Experience in developing on or using deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, ONNX, etc.)
  • Experience in deploying ML models to production
  • Extensive experience in Python
  • Strong communication skills and presentation abilities

Nice to Have

  • PhD degree in Computer Science or a similar discipline, or an equivalent amount of machine learning experience
  • Passion for aviation and autonomous systems
  • Experience with LLM, RL, and other emerging ML technologies
  • Proficiency in  C++

Pay Transparency Notice: Depending on your work location and years of experience, the target annual salary for this position can range from $187,000 to $220,000 + target bonus + benefits (including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and flight training).
