WAYFINDER

Our Wayfinder team is building scalable, certifiable autonomy systems to power the next generation of commercial aircraft. Our team of experts is driving the maturation of machine learning and other core technologies for autonomous flight; we are creating a reference architecture that includes hardware, software, and a data-driven development process to allow aircraft to perceive and react to their environment. Autonomous flight is transforming the transportation industry, and our team is at the heart of this revolution.

The Opportunity/Role Description

As a Senior Software Engineer specializing in Simulation, you will play a pivotal role in shaping Wayfinder's simulation data strategy to support the testing and development of neural networks that power the development of autonomy functions for the next generation of commercial aircraft. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality, photorealistic renderings and simulations to train and test convolutional neural networks, as well as building software- and hardware-in-the-loop simulations to validate our systems before real-world deployment. We are a lean, fast-moving team that values flexibility, initiative, and the drive to tackle complex problems head-on.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement detailed specifications and testing protocols for simulation data, ensuring it meets the highest standards for AI development.
  • Own relationships with external vendors responsible for rendering photorealistic simulation data, clearly communicating specifications and ensuring timely delivery.
  • Oversee data sources, including mapping data, aviation datasets, satellite data, and more, to create accurate and precise digital twins for simulations.
  • Design, implement, and maintain efficient pipelines to rapidly generate and process high-quality simulation data.
  • Ensure that simulation data is comprehensive, accurate, and delivered on time, meeting the full scope of AI development needs.
  • Manage the flow of high-quality data at scale, recognizing its importance in AI systems and ensuring it meets all deadlines.
  • Develop tools for metadata curation, data review, and quality management before and after simulation data generation to uphold rigorous standards.
  • Serve as the in-house expert on simulation, providing guidance, best practices, and troubleshooting support across the organization.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related discipline
  • 9 or more years of relevant experience, in particular
    • 5+ years of progressive experience in software engineering
    • 2+ years of progressive experience developing computer graphics software
  • Experience in photorealistic or physically based 3D graphics rendering pipelines
  • Strong understanding of state-of-the-art 3D computer graphics algorithms and techniques
  • Proficiency in C/C++ and Python
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear, well-structured, and well-documented code
  • A flexible, pragmatic attitude to contribute across various efforts as needed

Strongly Preferred qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Unreal Engine plugin development
  • Familiarity with fundamental simulation concepts such as interpolation techniques, time discretization methods, and Monte Carlo experiments
  • Familiarity with techniques in computer vision, machine learning, or neural networks
  • Working understanding of physics and linear algebra

Compensation:

The estimated salary range for this position is $154,000 to $201,000 annually, plus bonus incentives and a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, paid time off and holidays, 401(k), Flexible Spending Account & Health Saving Account, Airbus Employee Share Ownership Plan, flight training, and more.  Your exact compensation is determined by your location, skills, and experience. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided upon an offer of employment. These ranges are subject to change.
