The Opportunity 

The Director of Finance is a senior level position that reports to the Chief Executive Officer at Acubed and manages a team of Finance and Accounting professionals. This role is based at Acubed headquarters in Sunnyvale, CA. The Director of Finance is responsible for all accounting and finance functions of the company. This is a hands-on management position with much interaction with leaders and executives of the company, including with many at our parent company, Airbus. This position plays a key role in supporting the financial health of the company: establishing and refining processes, implementing and updating systems and tools, supporting proposals and helping projects to navigate the world of finance. Responsibilities also include ensuring Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) compliance, managing budgets, supporting Project Executives, as well as reporting and forecasting financial metrics. In a nutshell, the Finance Director oversees the preparation of the budget and longer-term strategic planning.

Responsibilities

  • Drive Acubed’s annual and quarterly budgeting process for the company as a whole, its internal departments and projects, in line with Airbus assumptions and deadlines
  • Develop key financial models; plan for cash spends on different projects
  • Prepare and present Acubed planning and financial performance to relevant parties, including the Acubed leadership team, Finance and Compliance Committee, Airbus Americas, CTO, etc.
  • Lead regular coordination efforts with the Airbus Americas finance team on accounting, tax, treasury, systems and procurement topics, as well as with the Technology finance team in Europe on funding
  • Lead Airbus-mandated financial compliance efforts and reporting 
  • Support project managers in developing and updating budgets based on project evolution
  • Adhere to, and be knowledgeable of relevant laws and regulations
  • Create company policies that support great financial health 
  • Monitor the monthly financial performance of projects and support functions against annual budgets and quarterly forecasts using our FP&A tool, and communicate accordingly to relevant parties
  • Ensure monthly accounting entries, accruals and reports submissions to Airbus are accurate and timely
  • Manage the A/P, A/R, and invoice reconciliation with Airbus Americas 
  • Set up new vendors and  run compliance checks on vendors and contracts
  • Actively participate in the improvement of financial systems and processes that improve Acubed’s efficiency while respecting compliance of Airbus policies and applicable accounting principles
  • Comply and support internal and external audits as needed in line with company policies 
  • Provide advice, counsel and direction to all project heads and staff to the extent necessary to ensure effective administration and implementation of approved fiscal policies, plans and programs 

Requirements 

  • A university degree (Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting or equivalent), MBA or CPA is a plus 
  • A least 5+ years of progressively ambitious work experience in finance or accounting
  • Basic knowledge of GAAP
  • Prior experience with building and managing stakeholders from multiple countries is a plus 
  • Incredible ethical standards
  • Excellent understanding of Excel / Google Sheet skills
  • Outstanding feedback from internal clients and partner
  • This position requires some travel in the US and to Europe, as well as documented proof of fully vaccinated status required (or qualify for an exemption)

Strongly Preferred Qualifications

  • Extremely organized, detailed-oriented, analytical and methodical
  • Ability to analyze complex data, identify key metrics, and translate complex technical terminology and concepts into content digestible by non-technical experts
  • Experience with Google Data Studio or other reporting / analysis tools
  • Experience with SAP, Procurify and Concur 
  • Ability to adapt to new situations quickly
  • Sense of urgency
  • Customer support mindset and strong business acumen and partnership 
  • Regard for necessary process mixed with a healthy skepticism for bureaucracy
  • Experience managing a team 
  • Previous experience in a hyper-growth or start-up environment
  • Deep knowledge of financial forecasting
  • Ability to with integrity, open-mindedness, passion, respect and accountability to make well-informed decisions based upon these values
